The point that some of the people in the article are alluding to but outright don’t say is, the game may have been compelling to demo / Wishlist. But potentially just wasn’t fun enough to pass the threshold for purchase.

However, there is the additional reality that the system is still too difficult to crack, which renders game development a shot in the dark.

I couldn’t imagine being a dev these days. Absolutely no credible marker can tell you whether your game is going to do good until it actually launches.
